My love for fish and chips began at an early age. I can still remember being 12 or 13, cycling to my uncle’s house on Saturday mornings to watch the football. Before the game, we’d queue at the local chippy for cod and chips, take them back to his, and then head off to the match. As a lifelong Canary fan, the fish and chips were often the highlight of the day!

That memory stayed with me, and when I left the army in the early 2000s, I knew I wanted to run my own chippy. In 2004, I completed my Fish Fryers course with the National Federation of Fish Fryers (NFFF) in Leeds and bought my first shop — funnily enough, the very same one that I used to visit with my uncle before the game!

Over the years, I worked in several Norwich shops, learning from old-school fryers who taught me the craft. In 2015, I managed one of the busiest (and still one of the best, in my opinion!) chippies in Norwich — Long John Hill Fish Bar, which is well worth a visit if you’re ever nearby.

Since moving up North in 2021, I’ve taken my passion on the road. First working as a mobile caterer for another company and then setting up my own street food business, Silvers Street Food, serving freshly cooked, quality fish and chips at weddings, birthdays, corporate events, and celebrations across the country.
